The Pula Film Festival is the oldest film festival in Croatia and one of the oldest film festivals in Europe. His trademark is the arena, in which the film screenings take place under the stars. Today it is the most visited cultural event in the Republic of Croatia, with over 73,000 visitors who take part in the numerous festival events. The festival program takes place in different locations in the city and attracts many visitors.
The competition program includes Croatian films, both game and short films that are normally premiered at the festival, as well as international program, children's program, youth program, retrospective program and pula cinematheque. The accompanying supporting program consists of programs for film professionals, film workshops, various exhibitions on the subject of cinematography and concerts. The jury awards the main prize of the festival - large golden arena for the best festival film. The Golden Arena is also awarded for the best director, the best script, the best actor and the best leading actress, the best supporting actress and the best leading actress, dop, cut, music, scenography and costume design. Another official festival award is also the Octavian, which is awarded by the Croatian Society of Film Critics (HDFK), and the Golden Gate of Pula, a price based on public votes that are shown in the arena.
