A day on a bike in Palma de Mallorca

When staying at BO Hotel you will be right in the heart of the beautiful city of Palma de Mallorca. Thanks to our convenient location in the La Lonja neighborhood you will be close to many places that are worth a visit.

And today we are very happy to recommend a different-kind-of day while your Palma-holiday. We want you to rent a bike and drive the city in style. Your first stop should be ‘Urban Drivestyle’.

This cool rental shop was founded in 2015 and is located near BO Hotel in Calle Sant Francesc number 11. In addition to offering great sightseeing tour, they are also our favorite place for bicycle, e-bike and e-scooter rentals.

As you can read on our ‘sightseeing in Palma‘s city center’ article, there are some lovey places to discover while in the city and renting a bike you will be able to optimize your time, get to know the city, get lost in some of the little streets of Palma’s old town and will still be in time for our last recommendation: heading down to Paseo Marítimo with your bike. Here’s how it goes:

As soon as you’re done visiting the city’s highlights you can drive down Paseo del Borne until you get to Palma’s promenade known as Paseo Marítimo. If you decide to go right you will have a long and beautiful ride ahead of you all the way to ‘Dique del Oeste’, which is where the city promenade ends. If you are heading that way, we would recommend you take a little detour to Castell de Bellver to enjoy the pine woods around the castle.

If when getting to the promenade you decide to turn left, a much longer and enjoyable ride will be waiting for you. It’s the road that connects Palma with Portixol, the charming little fishing harbour you’ll find 3 kilometers away from Palma. This beach resort next to Palma has a long traffic-free promenade specially for cyclists and roller skaters. Once you get there you will see that there is plenty of cafés and restaurants to choose from for a nice dinner or just to have some drinks by the sea.

Additional useful information: as Palma and its surroundings are bike-friendly, you will find a bike parking almost everywhere you go!

What are you waiting for? Jump on a bike and discover our BO HOTEL-Palma-bike-tour!

You will immediately recognize Plaza Cort, because in its center you will see the famous and ancient olive tree. This tree comes from a historic estate located in Pollensa and has become one of the most visited places by many tourists who want to immortalize the moment next to the majestic olive tree. Plaza Cort also houses the Town Hall of the city and the Palau del Consell de Mallorca. Do not hesitate to have a coffee at one of the coffee shops on Plaza Cort to soak up the lively city atmosphere.
  • Calle de Sant Miquel: A few minutes away from Plaza Cort you will find one of the busiest pedestrian streets in the historical center of Palma. It owes its name to the church of San Miquel, located on the same street which you can also visit while walking fown this beautiful area. La Lonja

As you probably already know, BO Hotel is located right in the well-known ‘La Lonja’ neighbourhood. This is one of Palma’s most emblematic neighbourhoods because of its history, its location and its lively city life.

Today we would like to tell you how it all started, as this neighborhood was named after the building known as ‘La Lonja’. La Lonja or ‘Sa Llotja’ is one of the architectural Gothic master pieces standing in Mallorca. Mallorca’s merchant association commissioned the architect and sculptor Guillem Sagrera to design this public building back in 1426. The aim, apart from covering the everyday needs for selling and purchasing products, was to ennoble the merchant profession.

Therefore a large “lonja” or exchange/auction warehouse was needed; it was adorned with many statues, of saints and angels as well as striking architectonic features. It is a rectangular building with one single space, which is divided into twelve naves through peculiar columns with no base or capital. The shafts of the pillars rise up to the ceiling shaping the ribs of the vaults.

The building has been preserved and restored over the years only to become one of the most beautiful must-visit spots in town. Today, Palma de Mallorca’s La Lonja is the venue for contemporary art exhibitions. The streets surrounding the building have a very special and unique charm which was the first thing dragging our attention at BO Hotel. The very same building our hotel is located in was built in the 19th century combining its architecture with surroundings and living up to the impressive beauty of La Lonja. La Lonja is in a 30-seconds-walking distance away from BO Hotel, so go and have a look as soon as you’re strolling through the cobbled streets of our neighbourhood, as you will find its architecture to be truly imposing.

Become a #citylover, ask us for advice, discover the city and let us take care of the rest. You’re at #BoHotel!
